Simple ways to make FIFA's Career Mode better
Posted on March 14, 2013 at 04:02 PM.
1) Transfer History screen - Sortable by year/club/league; its just incredibly baffling to me that they haven't added this already. You can only review transfers for the window that is currently happening, and you can't even view any more details on the transfer. How can it possibly be that I can't view my transfer history as a manager? isn't that kind of important?

2) Kit tweaks - Why not give us the option to change the colors (not the design itself, that'd probably be too complicated) of away/alternate kits the start of each season? Would keep the mode fresh, especially for the teams that don't have an alternate kit and only get to pick between two kits.

3) Training focus - FIFA doesn't need a complex training system like FM, just give us the option to have the player focus on one area more than the others (ie: ball control, attacking, defending, aerobic)

4) Reserve/youth academy game stats

5) More sortable stats in general for your first team

6) Primary/secondary lineups - We've all been there, particularly when you're a big club: It's the first round of the Capital One Cup, and you have three PL/Champions League games in the next week. You want to keep your starting XI fresh, and you know you're playing an inferior team. Why not give us the option before the season of setting a "secondary" lineup, which automatically subs in your backups?

7) Depth chart/auto subs - As an add-on to #6, how about being able to set criteria for fitness subs, so you don't have to go to Squad > Team Management to take out a guy you know is dead tired? ex: I'm playing as Liverpool, and let's say Daniel Agger's "Auto Rest" setting is anything less than 95% stamina. The game would then go to the next CB on my "depth chart" and sub the player in automatically (talking before the game, but this could be expanded to in-game subs as well) if Agger's stamina was 95% or less.

8) Less dumb interruptions during simulating - If I send my scout out to Brazil for 6 months, do I really need an e-mail 3 days later that says he's going to Brazil? Same with when you hire a scout, why does it say "Hey, I'm here. Send me somewhere." Wouldn't it be easier just to give them instructions immediately after being hired? Why not just give me the option to turn those e-mails on/off?

9) options for Int'l Management interruptions - Example: I only want to be bothered with an e-mail/offer if France, Germany, Spain, or Brazil come and talk to me. Not real interested in coaching Norway, Romania, or South Africa (these poor countries can never seem to find a manager!)

10) Heat/touch maps like they have at the end of the game (Player Performance) screen, except for the whole season (add on to #5 from my original post)

11) More options for incentives in contract, like an auto bump in salary after a certain amount of league games or goals scored (Football Manager has this exact feature)

12) Ability to change a players listed position / ability to add secondary positions

13) Ability to edit player attributes/potential/skill moves/weak foot rating after starting your career

14) An ability to select "anything but Goalkeepers" as one of your options when sending a scout out

15) If a player asks me for a raise, and then I go to give him one and give him the exact dollar amount my board is suggesting, shouldn't he accept, or at least give me the amount that he wants? Pretty sure in real life, a player doesn't go to his Manager and say "Hey, I want a raise. I'm not sure how much I want yet, but send me an offer and if I don't like it, I'll get pissed and refuse to negotiate for weeks. So good luck"

1. That'd be nice I guess, but It's not really that important to me. I could see why some people would care, but I generally only pay attention to the club you were in during that specific transfer window.

2. The kits are licensed, and for that reason cannot be changed.

3. I'd say do what the older Madden games (Not sure if they still do this as I've lost all interest in American football), and have you control the players in a scrimmage of sorts. The practices should be fully simmable, but it'd be a nice way to see how new players play or to just get a break from the intensity of multiple high profile matchups within days of eachother.

4. I'm not sure what you mean here. If you mean the stats for each game your youth team plays, I could see that working, but it'd be rather pointless. You don't have to have an actual full squad in your academy, and the games they play are all imaginary. I think it'd be a better option to just give them a consistent, month to month development instead of lumping it all in the first day of May.

5. I don't fully understand that, either. I suppose you mean taking note of blocks, interceptions, etc. like they take note of in player career mode? That would actually be pretty nice. I always found it interesting what % of long/short/medium passes each player completed, but then again, I'm pretty sure they have a menu for that somewhere in the post-game menu... I'm just usually either too excited for the next game or too pissed off from what happened to really care at that moment.

6. Not really needed. For one, injuries and suspensions would derail that (Unless this B team is full of players who NEVER actually play... in which case, how could you?) Secondly... that's just being lazy. Picking my team for the next game is one of my favorite things to do, even if it's a meaningless game. If worse comes to worse I'll let the game pick a lineup for me (Usually it includes a lot of fringe players) and make edits to that.

7. Nah, that just seems like pure laziness to me. I could see that backfiring spectacularly, too. Your best heading centerback goes below the 30% stamina you set right when you earn a corner? In comes the sub who doesn't have the same nose for goal....

8. Yes, please. I always found that pretty stupid. When I hire you, I should just tell you exactly where to go, and what to look for and be done with you until I get the first scout report.

9. I would go a step further and say give us the option to just turn international management offers off. The worst part about these offers is the stories that pop up after you decline and the commentators going on for 20 minutes a game about how you "Don't feel you're ready to manage two teams" like clockwork.

10. I wouldn't care about that one way or another. I tend to get a pretty good idea of what such a map would provide me just by playing.

11. Eh, I guess that would be alright, but it's not that important to me. The players tend to decide when they want a raise themselves, and it's probably a lot less frequently than any deal would provide.

12. Listed positions don't matter even slightly. I can play my keeper as Center Forward if I want to, so I can definitely play my CAM as a CDM and my LM as a RM (SOMEONE has to play RM/RW... all of you can't be on the left. Sorry).

13. Edit? Nah, I'd say being able to develop them, though, would be nice. It could work the same way it does with a virtual pro. Complete so many passes and your passing goes up. Complete so many shots with your weak foot and you gain a star on your week foot.

14. This actually made me laugh. It's true, when I actually want a keeper, I'll send my scout out with the focus of finding me a keeper.

15. I have this problem, too. Another one is their contract length "Demands" were not met. I don't really think about it too much, though, since their declining my contract offer usually ends with them completely forgetting about their desire for more money by the time they're done being sulky and refusing to accept my renewed offer!

thanks for the response. For the "laziness" ones, I just think it would make getting through a season go by quicker. The menus are painfully unresponsive when trying to switch guys out.

For the stats, yes, that's what I'm talking about. Key passes, shot on target %, clear cut chance conversion %, etc.. not just for each season, but career stats too. They have alot of these stats in the player performance screen after you complete a game, so I don't know why it would be that difficult to compile them into a screen outside of game.
